The main goals of the club are to promote better breeding, care and management practices of purebred dogs and elevate standards of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. For the benefit of all dogs, BVKA provides public education on responsible dog ownership and activities to the greater Skagit County community.
In that vein, we participate with agility, obedience and rally demonstrations at various events throughout the year. These events are organized by local dog welfare and rescue organizations. Our members are active in breeding and conformation shows, agility, obedience, tracking, herding, hunt trials, scent work and therapy dogs. We welcome members with mixed breed dogs and they participate in our obedience, tracking and agility trials.
The All-breed Conformation, plus Obedience and Rally shows are held at the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds in Lynden, jointly with Mt. Baker Kennel Club, the third weekend of May each year.
Our Agility trials are held in mid April and mid September at Fun Fur Paws indoor arena in Conway, South Skagit County.
Each winter we schedule a Tracking test, usually in Bow, WA, but locations may vary and on occasion, we will sponsor a seminar in a particular field, depending on interest and availability of experts in that field.
Club meetings are normally held the second Thursday of the month. The meeting place does change on occasion, so if you are interested in attending, please check beforehand as to time and location.
