If you want to see what competition scentwork looks like, this is it. We have teams ranging from Novice to Excellent, and Jan is wonderful at explaining what's going on as the dog is searching.
Introductory Workshop: 1:00-4:00
If you want to see how to start training scentwork yourself as a fun game to play with your dog, this is the one for you. Most of these people and dogs know nothing about scentwork, so you'll get to see the very beginning of training.

YOUR BVKA NASDA FUN DAY ORGANIZER EXTRAORDINAIRE
The second BVKA NASDA Fun Day was a huge success and everyone seemed very happy to be
there enjoying the outdoors with their best pals. We even had some senior citizens participate (I’m
referring to the dogs) and it was a pleasure to see them enjoy time with their people and work to
find things.
We had 12 handlers, who ran 22 dogs, in 134 runs over 4 events. Lost item recovery, shed hunt
(finding antlers), urban locating and trailing and locating (finding rats in quarry boxes in urban and
field settings).
We had a blast! The weather was amazing. The food was fantastic!
Some runs were easy, some were kind of hard, but all the dogs found all the “things” and enjoyed
playing NASDA sports; fun was had by all.
A huge thank you to my best helpers Mike and Linda – couldn’t have done it without all your
help; as well as Jean for riding herd on the potluck. Super happy that my newbie rats did a great
job handling their first real “workday” with so many different dogs.
Some of you mentioned wanting to get involved with NASDA, feel free to reach out directly to
me, and I will do my best to help you find trials or opportunities to train.

Get ready for the WSOTC obedience and rally trials. Or just come have fun with your dog. BVKA is again hosting an Obedience/Rally Fun Day. Rally will be in the afternoon only. Obedience will be in both rings in the morning, and one ring in the
afternoon.
When: Sunday April 26th 9-4

February 1, 2026 - AKC TD/TDX Test
TD/TDX test on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Entries are open. Closing date to enter the trial is Thursday, January 22, 2026.

This is an AKC tracking test where dogs can earn titles.
TD (Tracking Dog) title
A dog earns a TD by following a track 440 to 500 yards long with three to five changes of direction. The track is laid by a human tracklayer and is “aged” 30 minutes to two hours before the dog begins scenting. The goal is to use the scented track to locate a glove left at the end of the trail by the tracklayer. The owner follows the dog on a long leash and can encourage the dog during the tracking test.
TDX (Tracking Dog Excellent) title
The TDX is earned by following an “older” track (three to five hours) that is also longer (800 to 1,000 yards) and has five to seven directional changes with the additional challenge of human cross tracks. The dog must find articles along the track, in addition to the glove at the end.

Friday, September 12 Agility Course Test 1 Jumpers – ACT1J
We held an ACT1J test after the BVKA agility trial completed.
This is a beginning level event designed to introduce and welcome beginning dogs and handlers to AKC agility.
In addition to running the courses, exhibitors learn how to fill out an AKC entry form, what to do at an agility trial and other information they would need when they are ready for a regular trial. There are 2 runs, or rounds. Any dog that passes both rounds earns an ACT1J title from AKC.
July 18 ACT Test at Fun Fur Paws
Our 4-H ACT Event was last Friday, after the Chuckanut Dog Training Association trial was finished. Total entries were 14. Of those, 10 were 4-H kids. The other 4 were adults. Everyone did well. Out of the 28 runs, at the most there were only 1 or 2 missed contacts. Table faults happened the most often. Some knocked bars. And some over the time limit. Mister Robin had me send compliments from him that all did so well. He was impressed that everyone, and their dogs, were having so much fun. In the 1st round, 7 out of 14 qualified. Second round saw 9 out of 14 qualify. Exactly half passed both runs, and earned ACT1 titles. The split was the same for kids and adults. Half of each earned titles. Thank you goes out to CDTA for allowing us to do this event in conjunction with their trial.
The help of all the volunteers that made this happen is also very much appreciated.

March 22, 2025 - BVKA Member NASDA Play Day at Schasam Feld
NASDA is the North American Sport Dog Association nasda.dog. Formed in 2016, NASDA is all about the dogs searching, hunting, and locating in their natural way.
There are several games to run, and NASDA welcomes all dogs.
This will be a fun no pressure day to come see how the NASDA games work and learn a bit about each event. We’ll have a brief overview / introduction to the game, then you can watch a couple of demonstration runs with narration being done during the runs, and ask questions. Then you can try a run with your dog! If you don’t sign up for something, or anything, you can still come watch and learn
about it.
When: March 22nd 10-4 (9-5 if a lot of dogs sign-up) Potluck lunch in the barn.
